Residential Farm Conversion

Coggans Farm has been transformed into a warm, welcoming family home. The proposal re-organises the stores and service spaces into an efficient spine, which runs the length of the house along a bisecting hallway, extended to a living ‘hall’ within the old barn. This provides simple link, in place of previous room to room circulation, and sets up a cruciform axis with the opened up entrance hall and stairs, connecting a formal and informal route. The new spine terminates in an east facing breakfast area opening up views to the garden. The material strategy for the project aims to be honest and expressive of the alteration and development of the building. Contemporary materials, which are familiar and suited to the agricultural context, are used.
