Hotel Proposal London

Satellite Architects were asked to develop a central London site in Southwark to meet the growing demand for hotel accommodation in the area. The new apartment hotel will sit upon a two storey former light industrial building, already converted to hotel use. Two areas of the existing building are extruded by 3 stories, bringing them to up to the average height of the surrounding built fabric, extending the hotel to 40 plus guestrooms. The split between the two volumes reduces their bulk and respects the neighbouring developments. The local brick materiality is continued in the new volumes, but abstracted into a chequered pattern. A lighter brick is used and alternating vertical and horizontal double stack bonds reinforce the pattern.
