Passive House Offices
Satellite were asked to design one of the first office buildings to a 'passive-haus' environmental standard in the UK. The building has a simple two storey triangular form pointing towards the south, where the faces have an extensive rise soleil to control overheating and balance the thermal gains from the IT systems and high occupancy in this highly insulated building, while maintaining views and natural light. As well as limiting surface area, the form sets up a strong identity within a relatively anonymous business park and helps to define a central 'square' within this amorphous context. Addressing this space, the north face is open and transparent. One corner projects out, dynamically defining the entrance approach to a brightly lit double height space, with a glowing ventilation/light stack to the far side.
