Sheffield Bridge

Our principle idea for the bridge was that of a twisted ribbon, made segments, twisting throughout the length of the crossing. The proposal was designed to be a gateway to the City of Sheffield and the Town of Rotherham and a marker to define the boundary between the two along the A57 Parkway.

The bridge is viewed as a twisted, segmented form, which will never appear to be the same from any two location; the principle intention is to give a sense of an object in flux, as though moving through time. The crossing will seem to be alive, a moving form, shimmering in the sun, flickering in the dusk or proudly glowing with a sense of power in the night.
